The Future Is Here, and Its Name Is Recovery

October 22, 2021

Highlights from the Bring It On Webcast: October 2o, 2021 – Halloween Edition

Data partners executives VP pf Data Partnerships with Amadeus, Katie Moro and Knowland’s Chief Product Officer, Kristi White, came together again to discuss the future of the industry’s recovery efforts by diving into the numbers.

For some fun on the week before Halloween, Katie and Kristi dressed in costume for this BIO conversation. Katie, as “Sandy” from Grease and Kristi as a “Unicorn Queen of Data” — wings included.

The numbers are compelling if you read the tea leaves. Business travel and group numbers look positive as we move forward. Staying close to the numbers is the quickest way to stay ahead of the trends. Katie and Kristi discuss the trends and where the hidden gems are if you dare to look.

Here are three interesting things we learned during the conversation:

  1. Group performance growth is happening. While naysayers still ponder the strength of group business at this time, Katie reported 2021 quarter-over-quarter U.S. group performance continues to grow, as demonstrated over the past two week’s ongoing growth metrics.
  2. Travel is returning, restrictions are lifting. International travel is ramping up following the announcement about the U.S. borders re-opening and while big shifts are not yet happening, there has been a jump in air and hotel reservations. Operational aspects, such as the ongoing staffing issues we are seeing, continue to be a challenge for the industry in the face of increased bookings.
  3. It is important to expand your competitive set. Base business will drive occupancy and in turn revenue, however, companies are looking at travel differently. It is critical to know who you are competing with. Those smaller hotels you may not have competed with in the past, may be taking business from you today. Today’s traveler is different and brand loyalty is a thing of the past.

Kristi and Katie cove into the numbers for Q3 2021 and provided forward-looking insights on Q4 2021 plus optimism for 2022. Listen in to hear more!
